What postage actually costs
We post with Australia Post from Perth. Prices below are the published Parcel Post rates, and checkout works out the cheapest option for your basket automatically.
The short version

Why Sydney costs the same as Fremantle
This is the part that surprises people. Australia Post charges one national price for a domestic parcel up to 5 kg. Distance makes no difference at all below that weight, so a 2 kg box of chutney and masala costs exactly the same to send across Perth as it does to send to Sydney or Darwin.
Distance only starts to matter once a parcel passes 5 kg. Above that, postage becomes a base charge of $24.45 covering the first 5 kg, then a per kilogram charge that depends on where it is going.

Satchels are priced on size rather than weight, so for a heavy but compact order they usually work out cheaper. Checkout compares both and charges you the lower one.
Express Post, if you are in a hurry
Express is offered at checkout alongside Parcel Post. It is the fastest service Australia Post runs, and it costs a few dollars more.

An honest word on speed. Express Post is marketed as next business day, but that guarantee only applies between addresses inside Australia Post’s Express network, and Perth is a delivery point in that network rather than a lodgement point. In plain terms, we cannot promise next business day on anything going interstate from here. Express will still be the quickest option available, usually one to three business days. Within eligible WA postcodes next business day is realistic.
Free shipping over $100 covers Parcel Post. Express remains a paid upgrade, since a single Express parcel to north Queensland can cost more than the order itself.
There are four places we cannot cover it: Norfolk Island, Christmas Island, the Cocos Islands and the Australian Antarctic Territory. Australia Post charges so much more to reach them that the postage can exceed the value of the order. We still post there, and the price you are quoted is what it costs us with nothing added on top.
Over 5 kg, where it is going starts to matter
Parcel Post is a $24.45 base covering the first 5 kg, and Express a $32.95 base. After that each additional kilogram is charged at this rate from Perth:

How long it takes
We lodge within one business day. Australia Post quotes two to six business days for Parcel Post nationally. From Perth, the eastern states sit at the longer end of that, and regional addresses can add a day or two on top.
How glass gets packed
The chutney, tomato sauce and mayonnaise all travel in glass. Each bottle is wrapped individually and packed so nothing can move against anything else. If something does arrive broken, tell us within seven days and we will replace it. See returns for how that works.
Bulky orders
Australia Post can charge on volume rather than weight for a large light parcel, using length by width by height in centimetres divided by 4000. Our checkout runs that same calculation, so the price you see is the price we pay. Anything over 22 kg has to go as two parcels, and checkout will tell you if you get there.
